Greenwich Associates today announces the hiring of Craig Viani as a new analyst in the Firm’s Market Structure and Technology practice. Craig will be covering the technology side of equities, including e-trading infrastructure, high-frequency trading (HFT) and alternative trading systems.
Craig is a prominent figure in the critical arena of financial market structure, having worked in a variety of roles at industry-leading agency broker firms. He was the Managing Director and Head of U.S. Electronic Trading Product Management at ConvergEx, where he worked from 2003-2014. Most recently, he was an independent consultant, helping hedge funds and investment managers navigate the challenging terrain of the electronic equity markets as well as fortifying their best execution responsibilities.
A 20 year veteran of equity trading on Wall Street, Viani was responsible for driving product strategy for ConvergEx technologies that buy-side clients access directly, including algorithms, smart order routing and transaction cost analysis tools. In addition, he served as Chairman of ConvergEx’s U.S. Best Execution Committee, playing an integral role in driving the firm’s order routing strategies based on the quality of available execution venues as well as their effort to bring market structure intelligence to the firm’s clients.
“We’re excited to have Craig on board as we continue to build Greenwich Associates research and consulting capabilities across the financial service industry,” says Dan Connell, head of the Market Structure and Technology practice at Greenwich Associates. “He will be a key element in supporting the market structure and technology advisory service, which helps clients navigate changes in market structure driven by regulatory, economic and behavioral shifts.”
